About TaxOwl Pro
Tax software built by people who actually file returns.
We run a tax practice. We got tired of paying enterprise prices for software calibrated to 50-preparer firms when our team barely used it at that scale. So we built TaxOwl Pro — flat-fee, all-forms, no per-state surprises.
Why we built TaxOwl Pro
We’re independent tax preparers. We’ve prepared thousands of returns under the CKT Tax Pros banner — now operating as TaxOwl Advisors — for individuals, freelancers, S-corp owners, and small businesses across the US.
For years we paid Drake, ProSeries, and TaxSlayer Pro prices calibrated for mid-market CPA firms. Solo and small-practice preparers were subsidizing enterprise features we’d never use. Per-state fees stacked. Per-return fees stacked. The pricing complexity meant we couldn’t quote a clean flat fee to clients without padding our margin to absorb the surprise.
So we built the tax software we wanted for our own practice — and opened it up to other independents who feel the same mismatch.
What’s included
TaxOwl Pro — $649 / season (Web)
- Unlimited 1040, Schedule C, Schedule E, every business form (1120, 1120-S, 1065, 1041, 990).
- Unlimited federal + state e-filing — every state, no per-state fees.
- Year-round software access. Use it for amendments, prior-year returns, and planning work — not just January through April.
- Web-based. Works from any browser, no install.
- IRS-authorized e-file via CrossLink.
TaxOwl Pro Desktop — $899 / season
- Everything in Web, plus a desktop install for offline workflows.
- For preparers in low-bandwidth offices or who prefer working without a constant browser tab.
TaxOwl Pro Premier — for preparers launching new practices
- Pro Desktop license, plus a 9-deliverable launch kit (business plan, intake forms, IRS due-diligence checklists, tax organizer, end-of-year checklist, email sequence, mini-website, sales funnel, 6-week roadmap).
- Three mentorship calls with the team.
- Built for someone going from “I have a PTIN” to “I have my first 30 paying clients.”
What we don’t do (yet)
We’re a small team building software, not a 50-employee SaaS. So:
- No 24/7 phone support. Email and Hub messages — 1 business day off-season, same-day during tax season.
- No multi-tier sales reps. Nobody is paid commission to upsell you software you don’t need.
- No “set-up fee” or “migration fee” surprises. Your seat fee is your seat fee.
- We don’t sell your data. Not “we minimize” — we don’t.
On the roadmap (direction, not promises): a more polished new-client intake module, deeper Schedule E rental tracking, and an in-product tax-planning module for year-round work.
Who’s behind it
TaxOwl Pro is built and operated by CKT Ventures, LLC — a Tampa-based independent tax practice founded by C.T. & K.T., a husband-and-wife team running both an active practice (TaxOwl Advisors) and the Pro software platform.
We’re independent preparers ourselves. The features we ship are the ones we’d want in the software we use day to day.
Why this matters for you
Most tax-software companies are run by people who’ve never sat across the table from a client at 11pm in March. We have. The product reflects that.
Where we’re headed
We’re building TaxOwl Pro for the next generation of independent tax preparers — solos, side-hustlers, and small practices who want professional tax software without the enterprise overhead.
If that’s the practice you’re running (or planning to launch), we’d like to be the platform you build on.
